Academic Proofreading
WordsRU's academic proofreading service has been designed to provide assistance to all members of the academic community. Whether you are a university freshman writing your first essay, a graduate student working on your dissertation, or a distinguished professor preparing a critical grant proposal, we are here to assist you. We understand that everyone needs a proofreader, particularly individuals working under the pressure of a deadline. We know how difficult it is to remove yourself from the writing process in order to see the errors in your document. Writers tend to see the text in their heads, not the text on the screen or paper. WordsRU's professional editors provide a fresh pair of highly-trained, detail-oriented eyes guaranteed to catch the errors you miss.
WordsRU's editors understand that tiny errors can have a significant impact on the reception a document receives. It is difficult for a reader to appreciate the value of an idea when it is presented in a document filled with typos. Readers quickly become distracted by the mistakes and pay less attention to the paper's content. Proofreading by WordsRU’s experienced professional editors will ensure your academic document is letter-perfect and free of typographical, grammatical, spelling and punctuation errors.
What is the difference between editing and proofreading?
Proofreading is often confused with editing; however, they are two distinct steps in the writing process. Academic editing is undertaken prior to proofreading and involves the improvement of word choice and correction of sentence and paragraph structure. In addition, WordsRU's academic editors provide guidance, as needed, on overall document organization and format. Proofreading is the final stage of the writing process, and is performed after all writing has been completed and the document has been edited. The focus of proofreading is on polishing the final product. To learn more about the academic editorial services we offer, please visit our academic editing page.
Why do I need a proofreader when my software provides spelling and grammar checkers?
Our proofreaders do what spelling and grammar checkers cannot. While spelling and grammar checkers are useful tools and we highly recommend you take advantage of them, they identify errors based on a small set of imperfect rules. Thus, their usefulness is limited. For example, Microsoft Word's spelling and grammar checkers did not identify any errors in the following sentence. However, as you can see, there are many.
I brought a peace of pie today; bought it home and eight it.
I bought a piece of pie today, brought it home and ate it.
