The client and the project

The client company’s corporate operations manual had been in existence for over fifteen years — a period that had seen enormous changes in company culture, both internally and internationally—and there was a growing need for a comprehensive, up to date operations and policy reference. Although large sections of the original copy could be rewritten to reflect a more contemporary tone and style, there were significant areas that were seriously outdated with respect to operational detail, language, technical terminology, and policy.

The client supplied WordsRU with all relevant material, including copies of various interim updates, a glossary of current terms, and a host of other data necessary to achieve the organization’s objective, and contracted WordsRU to rewrite their corporate operations manual. Stage 1 of the project involved assembling the individual elements and presenting the client with a first draft and approval. The editor then proceeded with the actual rewriting of the manual, maintaining liaison with the client throughout. The rewritten manual was submitted to the client for further approval and in-house checking. It was then given a complete final check and proofread prior to printing and distribution. The WordsRU editor also devised a simple method of identifying and recording update issuance that could be incorporated into the manual in such a way that it would continue to reflect organizational changes without the need for another major restructure—at least not any time soon.
