Manuscript Editing
With WordsRU manuscript editing the overall balance, structure, characterization and plot development of your manuscript are paramount as is the retention of your voice as author. While your editor will make suggestions or comment about these aspects, it is always the intention of our professional editors to enhance your words, to preserve your voice and to unify that which may be in conflict — unresolved issues, extraneous sub-plots, inconsistencies and lapses in continuity — to ensure your manuscript is given the best possible presentation. In addition to a grammar check, your editor will look at spelling, tense, punctuation and typographical errors as well as word choice and sentence structure to make sure your narrative is fluid and readable.
"Cry, the beloved country, for the unborn child that is the inheritor of our fear. Let him not love the earth too deeply. Let him not laugh too gladly when the water runs through his fingers, nor stand too silent when the setting sun makes red the veld with fire. Let him not be too moved when the birds of his land are singing, nor give too much of his heart to a mountain or a valley. For fear will rob him of all if he gives too much." |
Alan Paton’s internationally acclaimed novel Cry, the Beloved Country was published in 1948 prior to apartheid becoming law in South Africa that same year. The politically sensitive book was banned in South Africa but enjoyed critical success and sold in excess of 15 million copies around the world.
Few authors can write such emotive prose but WordsRU’s professional manuscript editors will strengthen and rework your sentences to benefit the flow and readability in the editing of your manuscript. They will proofread your manuscript, do a grammar check, and ensure your work is free from spelling and typographical errors. Given its importance in contributing to rhythm and readability, particular attention is paid to punctuation and so too word choice, syntax and paragraph structure.
Sentences are often difficult to read not because they have too many words, but because of poor word choice. Often there are simply too many unnecessary and inappropriate words. Our professional manuscript editors understand that a sentence that is unclear after a first reading is a sentence that needs work. That work does not necessarily involve the number of words per se, rather the number of words that do not contribute anything to the meaning of the sentence. Rhythm is an interesting aspect in structuring sentences; long sentences that flow well, with good rhythm, can be clearer and more pleasing than short sentences without a rhythmical flow, but there is no magic number to sentence length. |

WordsRU’s online manuscript editors know about readability indexes and statistical studies that advocate a specific number of words per sentence but these gauges do not guarantee readability. The length of a sentence can be used as a guide but not as a rule — readability is always the criterion.

Outstanding - With three agents already looking at the manuscript edited by WordsRU, I'm confident my book will get published. Richard was awesome! Every e-mail was answered quickly and he offered some advice to the script I would have never thought of! Thank you for a job greatly done!
